TEXAS CRIMINAL LAWYER

Plea Bargains

If you have been offered a plea bargain as an alternative to going to state trial, you may be wondering whether or not you should accept. As you might imagine, the best course of action is determined on a case-by-case basis. But one thing you should definitely do is ask questions.

Make sure you know exactly the crimes to which you will be admitting. Ask what your sentence will be, how parole laws might affect any jail time you may be sentenced to, and make sure your lawyer explores alternatives to prison time such as shock probation. If you are not a United States citizen, ask whether or not your plea bargain will effect your ability to remain in the country. Make sure you know the full terms of your plea agreement, such as whether or not you will be required to go to counseling, do community service, register as a sex offender, or any number of other conditions. In short, make sure you are fully informed about the terms of your agreement.

If you need help with your case call the Texas criminal lawyers at Grossman Law Offices.
